DOMIPEX Team 15

Hello DOMIPEX colleagues!
We are the TEAM 15, from the Institute of Aquatic Ecology (University of Girona). We are Irene, Juanita, Anna, Núria, Elena and Mireia, a very diverse team, with researchers from different departments and lines of research.

Irene is working in wetland systems, particularly in the study of macroinvertebrate communities and their relation to the environmental characteristics of the ecosystem surrounding them. Juanita, Anna and Núria are working in biofilms and leaf litter decomposition in Mediterranean rivers. We are focused on the ecosystem functioning regarding to the interaction with drought effect, water quality, and anthropogenic impacts.
Elena and Mireia are from molecular microbial ecology group (gEMM). Elena studies the nitrogen cycle, mainly the different fates of nitrite and nitrate in aquatic systems, as denitrification and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium. Mireia is developing her thesis around the role of the uncultured Archaea in the carbon cycle in stratified karstic lakes.

Sampling calendar

Hi all!

After our exciting meeting in Santander, now we're about to start our first sampling period of DOMIPEX, which will be conducted under low-flow stream conditions (summer).

Sampling material has been distributed among participants teams, sites are chosen, field and lab methods have been tested and the sampling protocol has been elaborated (have a look here).

In brief, we'll start informing about team's field visits. At the moment, here's the sampling calendar of DOMIPEX participants.

Happy sampling!

Núria and Ada.

DOMIPEX TEAM 1- UPDATED) Celia, Rubén and Andrea

Hello,
We are the team 1: Celia Ruiz, Rubén Rasines and Andrea G. Bravo. We will also collaborate with Pablo Almeda and Ana Herrero. Together, we are an interdisciplinary group working from hyporheic areas in rivers  to oligotrophic and humic lakes. We study oxic and anoxic interfaces and within the context of DOMIPEX, we aim to understand the role of the organic carbon on the N cycle in lotic systems. We are happy to participate in the DOMIPEX project learning and sharing our research with many other people. We want to congrats Nuria and Ada for organizing. We expect to do the first experiment somewhere between the 1st and 15th September. We will give more details in August.

Best regards

Celia, Rubén y Andrea

Getting started with the project!

Hi all!

Two weeks ago, we started with the initial trials of the field sampling. We conducted two acetate additions in Gallifa (very close to Barcelona) to test the methodology. Now, Núria is testing the lab methods. So, everything is getting ready for our meeting at Santander congress.

Looking forward meeting you there!

DOMIPEX TEAM 7) Meritxell, Joan Pere and Rafa

Hello everybody!

We are Meritxell, Joan Pere, and Rafa (Team 7) from the University of Barcelona (M) and the Catalan Institute for Water Research (JP and R).
We are currently working on carbon biogeochemistry and ecosystem functioning in streams, lakes, and small reservoirs in the framework of the project CARBONET (see also Team 11). So YES, we are carbocentric (or carbo-eccentric) people!

See you soon in Santander!
Cheers,

Meritxell, Joan Pere, and Rafa
